A DAY of celebration of books was topped off by a visit from an author last week.

The children of Vernham Dean Gillum’s Primary School welcomed Barbara Townsend on Thursday, March 7, for World Book Day.

Barbara writes books inspired by the area include Stonehenge and Avebury.

During the day she visited classrooms throughout the school and talked about her books, including Old Harry Rock and Tales of the Jurassic Coast.

Barbara also told the pupils what it was like being an author, before taking time to have pictures taken with staff and pupils.
