THERE were sore bums but lots of smilies for dear causes after a charity challenge at the weekend.

Donna Jackson, with Nic and Anna Beckett, each cycled 21 miles ahead of World Down Syndrome Day 2019.

Since daughter Frankie was born, Donna has become an advocate for people with Down’s Syndrome and blogs to an audience of more 17,500 people on her page called Frankie says relax about T21.

And on Saturday the trio saddled up to not only raise awareness but also money for charity.

Unfortunately, last year Donna had to cancel a fundraising run due to snow so this year she was not taking any chances.

The 35-year-old from Andover contacted Reasons Fitness and owners Tommy and Kelly Gentleman were kind enough to offer a space for the charitable ride.

Donna: “It was a killer, the riding part was OK but our bums were aching after and I couldn’t put my feet down. Luckily because I had the two other girls there we geed each other on.”

The trio managed to complete the challenge in just over two hours.

“I wanted to do the 21 miles because of the 21 chromosome,” Donna said.

A person with Down’s Syndrome has an additional chromosome 21, known as Trisomy 21. Humans receive 23 chromosome from each parent.

Speaking of the challenge Donna said: “I thought it was going to be a lot worse than it was.”

She added: “My sister and brother-in-law, my mum and dad and Nic’s mum came down and bought us Jelly Babies.”

The money raised will be split between three organisations which have helped the Jackson family.

The Down’s Syndrome Association, Wouldn’t Change a Thing and Icknield School will all benefit.

But that is not the end of Donna’s fundraising as she has also organised a raffle with groups around the town getting involved, with the hope of adding to her more than £850 total.

And Nic is set to run a half marathon in aid of Down’s Syndrome Association.
