MORE than 50 girls took part in the finale of this year’s Andover Schools Girls Football League last week, where a new league champion was crowned.
Seven primary schools were represented in the tournament, in which St John the Baptist was named the winner after edging out last year’s champions Anton Junior.
Each team played a total of 11 matches over two half-day periods, with the final game played on Tuesday, March 19, at Portway Junior School.
The excitement continued until the very last round of fixtures with just three points separating the top three teams heading into the final games.
As well as St John the Baptist and Anton Junior, teams from Andover CofE, Balksbury, Portway, Vigo and Whitchurch CofE took part in the action.
Andover Schools Girls Football League, sponsored by Lions in the Community and Cathy Devereux, aims to encourage girls aged seven to 11 to have fun and play football while representing their schools.
