PARTNERSHIP work throughout Basingstoke is looking to clamp down on anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

Safer North Hampshire, Hampshire Constabulary, Basingstoke Together and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has said that persistent offenders of anti-social behaviour will be prosecuted.

Recently the borough council were successfully in prosecuting a 36-year-old man for breaching a community protection notice.

He was fined £103 and ordered to pay £50 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge by Basingstoke Magistrates Court.

The partnership has also worked together to be granted a civil injunction by the courts to tackle the persistent and unreasonable behaviour in the town centre of a 13-year-old.

Caroline Ryan, community safety manager for Safer North Hampshire said: “This outcome demonstrates that Safer North Hampshire, Basingstoke Together and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will not tolerate the actions of those whose behaviour impacts on others who wish to come into the town centre.

“This will ensure that Basingstoke remains a thriving, friendly and safe environment for all of those who work in or visit the town.”

The injunction imposes restrictions on the movement and activity of this youth and is designed to prevent further disturbances.

Lucy Boazman, chief executive of Basingstoke Together, added: “Basingstoke Together are pleased to be working in partnership to combat anti-social behaviour within the town centre.

“The detrimental impact such behaviours have on local businesses and those wishing to visit the town, places additional and unnecessary strains on the high street.

“Through the BID, local businesses have funded a dedicated role that focuses on tackling anti-social behaviour affecting the town centre and works directly with our partners to gain results such as those achieved in court recently.”

Head of borough development and implementation at the borough council, Stephanie Cordon said: “We won’t tolerate anti-social behaviour and we will continue to take action against those who spoil the town centre.

“We’re pleased to be working with our partners in such a positive and proactive way to make real difference.”
