A BLAZE that engulfed a lorry and a bus stop on a B-road near Andover took almost six hours to extinguish yesterday (Thursday).

Firefighters from Whitchurch and Andover were called to the incident at 12.38pm. They remained on scene until the stop message was given at 6.10pm.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire involved a white MAN lorry at the junction between the B3400 and B3048 in Hurstbourne Priors.

No other vehicles were involved, however the flames spread to a nearby thatched bus station.

The blaze was eventually put out by six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one CAFS jet and one 70ml jet.

South Central Ambulance Service had been alerted to the incident. A crew remained on standby at the scene but in the end were not required as there were no injuries.

The B3400 was closed in both directions for much of the afternoon. Police said yesterday it was expected to remain so "for some time."
