THE mayoral seal of approval has been given to the new website of a group helping older people in the Andover area.

At the Annual General Meeting of Andover and District Older People’s Forum on April 25, the group was joined by the mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Ian Carr and mayoress Beryl Carr.

Cllr Carr agreed to formally launch the forum's new website.

Mollie Antrobus, forum secretary, said: "Our aim is to inform the over 55s about issues of interest to older people and to get them involved.

"Not only do we provide current information on both national and local issues, we also provide links to websites with information on topics such as housing and help available for older people.

"We are a community organisation which meets four times a year and often holds events and roadshows to celebrate the International Day for Older People on or around the 1st October each year. This is under the ‘Full of Life’ banner. Topics have included pensions; travel; arthritis and mobility; osteoporosis and many others.

"This autumn we hope to address independent living.

"We campaign, we comment when consulted on policy or service provision changes by statutory organisations and we inform and brief our members."
