A WELL-KNOWN statue in Andover has been restored to its former glory after it fell foul to vandals.

The Millennium Man, in Weyhill Road, was damaged in February, causing it to become unhinged and fall.

The statue was broken at its ankle and was left on the floor.

After three months, this week Test Valley Borough Council has returned the Millennium Man to its rightful place.

Head of community and leisure, Dave Tasker, said: “We are really pleased to return Millennium Man.

“The council had been considering the best way to repair the statue following vandalism in October last year and further damage that required him to be taken away, in February.

“To see our team putting him back where he belongs is fantastic and we are all very pleased that we have been able to repair the damage.

“The scaffolding will remain until next week to give the statue time to safely set in place.

“Hopefully residents will enjoy seeing him back in his rightful place.”

New stainless steel rods were put in the statue during the work with the remaining base that was left on site repaired.
