WHITCHURCH Town Council has elected a new chairman and mayor.
Councillor Fiona Nicolson was put forward as the sole nominee for the dual role before being voted in unanimously by her fellow councillors at Monday’s full council meeting.
Cllr Andrew Klemz was voted in as deputy chairman and deputy mayor for 2019/20.
Retiring chairman Cllr John Buckley presented Cllr Nicolson with the mayoral insignia during Monday’s meeting.
Before the meeting he had given his final address as town mayor. He said: “Whitchurch and its community is the best place I have come to. It’s the best place I have lived and it gives me hope for a better future.”
Cllr Nicolson, who becomes the fourth female mayor in Whitchurch Town Council history, thanked her fellow councillors for nominating her and said she feels very “privileged and humbled” to take on the role.
