A ROAD name which one Tidworth resident deemed to be spelt ‘wrong’ will not be changed.
Councillors have voted to not take steps to change Nepaul Road to mirror the spelling of the country Nepal.
At a meeting of the town council on May 14 the matter was put to members and all but two, who abstained, voted against the change.
Councillor Mark Connolly said he had contacted the chair of the Nepalese community in Tidworth, adding: “They themselves said they didn’t want the name to be changed, they were quite happy with the name.”
Town mayor Councillor Brian Pratt added: “Why now after such a long time?”
Councillors cited that if the name was changed, a consultation with residents would have to take place and fees would be incurred in the process.
