WHITCHURCH Tennis Club served up a day to remember last weekend with the formal opening of its re-painted courts and new practice facilities.

More than 50 guests were in attendance on Saturday, including town and borough councillors who helped bring the project to fruition and the the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Councillor Diane Taylor and her consort Dr Andy Taylor.

The mayor cut the ribbon to officially declare the facilities open before the club’s junior members took to the court for drills, games and a touch tennis tournament.

Judy Chrimes, the club’s publicity officer, said: “It was a brilliant turn-out and a very happy occasion, with much chat and refreshments enjoyed by all.

“The club’s aim is that the new facilities should benefit everyone, from juniors, who showed how well the courts will be used, upwards to adults.”
