MODEL flying displays, new and historic aircraft, military vehicles, 1940s music and dancing, Second World War re-enactment groups and children’s entertainment will come together for a family fun day at the Museum of Army Flying in Middle Wallop today (Bank Holiday Monday).

The museum’s flagship annual event, Wartime Wallop, will feature an opportunity to get up close to veteran aircraft including an Auster, Beaver, Sioux and Scout.

Other attractions on the day will include model flying, a crowd pleasing fly-out from the HAF (Historic Aircraft Flight) team, as well as an opportunity to see or dance in a 1940s style with the Andover Lindyhoppers, or just sit back and enjoy the wartime era singing from the Decibelles.

Attendees include the Army Air Corps’ hot air balloon, 4th Dorset HQ Field Office, Many Fronts Living History, 4th Wiltshires, Models for Heroes, The Joystick Club, Military Education Trust, 25th BD Co RE LHG, and many more.

Event organiser, Joe Faretra, said: “Last year we had around 1,000 people at the event throughout the day so we’re keen to see if we can improve on that number, especially with the draw of the recently refurbished museum thrown in.

“One of the things we’ve enhanced the appeal on this year’s event is by adding extra value to the day, so we have got Battlefield South’s laser tag arena, face painting, a bouncy castle and science experiments from Genie Lab, all included in the ticket price.”

“Also, if you are able to Gift Aid your entry at no extra cost, you will be able to return to Museum as often as you like for the subsequent 12 months.

“We always run different holiday activities each time, so there’s definitely a good reason to keep coming back.”

Tickets for the day, which allow access to the museum grounds as well as the museum and airfield, cost £17.50 for adults and £12.50 for children, seniors and students, family tickets are available for £42.50.

Museum pass holders, military personnel, Army Air Corps members and their families and Friends of the Museum can all come for £5 each (with relevant ID shown on entry).
