AN EVENT to boost the expansion of an Andover hospice will take place next weekend.

A Weekend of Wherwell, aWOW, will be held at Wherwell Farm on June 15 and 16 in aid of the Countess of Brecknock Hospice.

The event will feature fishing on the Wherwell Lake, clay pigeon and rifle target shooting in the woods and a high ropes course over the two days.

And on Sunday 10k, 5k, and 2k runs, for children, will be staged in the morning, and 10k mountain cycle events in the afternoon over a mixture of fields and wood paths.

For those who are fans of trains, there will be model engines, many of which are ride-ons, along with some static displays.

The Countess of Brecknock Hospice opened in 1990, but it is no longer big enough to cope with demand and is currently undergoing a £4.2million extension.

The extension will provide 10 new in-patient bedrooms, relatives room, improved day care centre and treatment and therapy rooms, to name just some of the benefits.
