ANGRY residents were temporarily “plunged back into the Stone Age” last week after roof repair work left them without a television signal.

Residents of flats in Rack Close discovered the fault on Thursday last week.

Scaffolding has been in place around flats in the street for almost a month, but it was not until last week television issues began.

Aster, the housing association responsible for the flats, has since apologised and addressed the issue. However, some residents say they were initially told the fault would last for up to 12 weeks.

Speaking on the day of the outage, one person said: “They have said it’s going to be like that until the scaffolding comes down. I just knocked on a few neighbours doors and they are absolutely furious.”

Another resident who contacted the Advertiser said: “Residents of Rack Close have been plunged back into the Stone Age because Aster can’t be bothered to repair or realign a TV aerial.

“The roofers and builders have accidentally moved the TV aerial from its proper spot causing all YouView and Freeview channels to be lost.

“Aster’s response was until all works are completed on the roof they will not be repairing or realigning the aerial.

“The roof repairs and other repairs to the building will take approximately 12 weeks and residents are expected to go the 12 weeks with no television. Disgusting. One call centre lady said, ‘you can always play board games’.”

Following the complaints, Aster moved quickly to solve the problem. The company has apologised for the issue and urges anyone who experiences further issues to get in touch.

An Aster spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to hear that the TV signal at Rack Close was interrupted for a short time last week. For the very small number of residents effected, the issue was resolved and the TV signal in those properties should now be fine.

“We don’t expect the TV signal at Rack Close to be disrupted again for any length of time however if customers are experiencing issues please contact us so we can investigate further.”
