THE community of Stockbridge was not discouraged by the cloudy skies as the town hosted its seventh fete on Saturday.

There was a “a lovely atmosphere and a great community feel” on the Recreation Ground, with plenty to entertain guests.

The beer tent and tea hut were favoured destinations for the adults, but there were traders set up around the field and fete-goers had the opportunity to try their hand at welly wanging, the coconut shy or pitch and putt.

Entertainment came in the form of live music, along with the return of the dancers from Ruby Slippers Show School. The football club also staged a mini tournament during the afternoon, and there was a display of classic cars, alongside a vintage double decker and a fire engine

Younger guests took to an inflatable slide and bouncy castles, and enjoyed games and sweet treats.

The fete raised £6,000 - £600 is going to Test Valley School Parent Teacher Association to help keep the swimming pool open and the remainder will be split between Friends of Stockbridge School and Stockbridge Football Club.

Organiser Miriam White said: “Thank you to all the people who contributed in so many ways to making this event happen. It really is a community effort and wouldn’t happen without the support of local business, donors, sponsors and volunteers. Thank you to every one of you.”
