BAKERS and ‘ballers braved the weather for Overton School Association’s (OSA) summer fete at Overton CofE Primary school last weekend.

Despite Saturday’s showers, the event went ahead with the results of the Great Overton Bake Off announced and Year 6 house netball and football tournament winners crowned.

OSA committee member Helen Marrocco said: “We were really lucky, it did rain a couple of times but it was just showers.

“All our volunteers really pulled together, and it was really great seeing all the kids’ smiles on their faces.”

This year’s fete ran from noon to 2pm — one hour less than in previous years — but there was no shortage of action on the day.

Ash was named the winning house in the Year 6 netball and football tournament, and in the Bake Off competition Alexandra Rolfe was named star baker.

Further awards went to Thomas Webster (best decorated cupcake), Kitty Targett and Eleanor Fowles (best flavour combination) and Freya Berry (best traybake).

Demonstrations were also provided by USKO Karate, Marina School of Dance and Overton Taekwondo, and there was a performance from the school’s country dancing club.

Helen says the committee is still tallying up on the total amount raised during the event, but it looks to be close to £4,000.

She added: “It’s nice that in its 50th year we are still doing this kind of thing.

“Lots of local businesses and organisation helped us out so we are really grateful to them.

“It’s just really good fun having all the families there.”
