PUPILS, parents and teachers bounced back from a rainy sports day last week with an afternoon of fun in the sun at the weekend.

Whitchurch C of E Primary School enjoyed a sun-soaked summer fete on Saturday, June 22, making up for the midweek sports day wetness.

Saturday’s action included penalty shout outs, a coconut shy, tombola and BBQ, as well as gift stalls, animal petting, the popular fancy dress photo booth and much more.

Headteacher Mrs Steven said: “Today’s fete was a huge success. It’s been fantastic to see everyone having so much fun whilst supporting the school.

“Thank you to all those who made today possible – those who donated auction prizes, the cake makers, the volunteer stallholders and so many more. It is such a team effort!”

Staff are still counting the pennies but say they expect the event to have raised around £4,500 in total.

The fete is a key event in the school’s fundraising calendar, and this year’s edition was particularly important with costly building works currently underway at the school.

The Friends of Whitchurch Primary School (FOWPS) charity is leading a drive to raise the £50K required to complete the part of the works which are not funded within the project.

Mrs Steven added: “Parents, teachers and pupils are really pulling together to ensure we meet our fundraising target.

“I have been so impressed by the support being shown and the eagerness by all to make sure we can raise enough funds to decorate and complete the classrooms.”

The next fundraiser takes place in after the summer holidays when the school hosts a circus on September 29.
