THESE stunning images taken by an amateur photographer give a whole new perspective of Bolton.

The scenic snaps of Winter Hill and Rivington Pike, as well as the University of Bolton Stadium have been captured by telecoms worker David Southern.

For the past eight years, Mr Southern has been doing photography in his spare time and even snaps sporting events for a freelance agency.

Around nine months ago, he splashed out four figures on a drone in order to take some new kinds of photographs and these are the latest.

Since publishing the photographs on his Twitter page, he said the response has been “crazy” and he said he would consider doing prints if there was a demand for it.

“You see things from a totally different perspective with a drone,” he said.

“It’s basically a bird’s eye view and when you get the right shot it is really impressive.

“I decided to invest in a good one so spent around £1,200 on the Mavic Pro. I live near the Beehive in Horwich though, so it’s just a case of sending the drone up from my back garden and bringing it back down again.

“There are lots of really nice parts of Bolton but I’ve just not had the time to take the drone up in them yet.

“It’s gone a bit crazy really though, Middlebrook have been in touch about doing some pics for them as well.”

The 45-year-old’s love affair with photography started when watching his son play football for Horwich St Mary’s.

Since then, he has set up his own website and social media pages, and gets paid for some of his work.

Mr Southern added: “ My son plays football and like a normal dad, I wanted to take pictures of him playing.

“I started out with a basic camera and now I’ve got a decent DSLR.

“I have a full-time job so just do it in my spare time.

“I’d love to do it full time but from a financial perspective it’s just hard.

“It’s always good to see the look on people’s faces when they see the photo I’ve done.”
