A THAI restaurant has bounced back from a one-star hygiene rating to score full marks in a follow-up visit.

Siam Orchid, in George Yard, was visited by a food hygiene inspector in March, when it was found that the restaurant required major improvements to its food safety management.

A follow-up visit took place today (Thursday) and after the inspection the restaurant was awarded a five-star rating.

Owner Abul Hasnath said: “It was absolutely everything – top scores on it all. They were happy with the training, the staff, the hygiene.”

Abul says that staffing issues were the key factor behind the one-star rating issued during the March visit.

“Previously we had some issues earlier in the year, which is why we were closed a few months in January and February, but then we opened up at the end of February.

“I explained to the inspector that we had some staffing issues and things did slip a bit.”

Siam Orchid has a 4.5-star TripAdvisor rating and restaurant bosses says that despite its recent issues, the establishment has remained popular with customers.

“We are a small restaurant but a popular restaurant, everyone seems to love the place,” said Abul.
