‘TRULY inspiring’ pupils celebrated at a special event as proud parents and school staff watched them become prefects.

Winton Community Academy’s new prefect team was introduced on June 20, with students awarded their new blazers and ties.

The occasion also revealed the much-anticipated news of the names of the head students.

The scheme, now in its fifth year, the school said the quality of the applications were “truly inspiring”, and in an “outstanding” field of young people, who applied, four students who “epitomised what Winton Community Academy is all about” were announced as the new senior students.

Tom Watts, Freya McEvoy, Jun Ruan and Mati Granica were awarded the positions, and the quartet were described as “hardworking, committed, intelligent and passionate young people”.

Headteacher Nathan Thomas said: “I am delighted with all the new prefect team and look forward to seeing them in our weekly meeting to discuss ways in which we can continue to improve the academy for the young people we serve. Both ‘parent voice’ and ‘student voice’ are really important at Winton and regular meetings with the prefects is one way we can ensure the voice of the students is heard and acted upon.”
