WINTON ward councillors have awarded a £500 Councillor Community Grant towards the annual outing of Ashlawn Gardens Social Club.

Ashlawn Gardens provides sheltered accommodation for more than 50 residents, many of whom live by themselves. Every year, the social club helps to organise an annual outing to provide valuable social interaction.

This year, residents went for lunch and a steam train journey on The Watercress Line.

Mike Taylor, treasurer of the Ashlawn Gardens Social Club, said: “We were very pleased that our application for a Councillor Community Grant was accepted. It was brilliant to have our local councillors wave us off on our outing.”

Test Valley Borough Council’s (TVBC) Winton ward member, councillor Richard Rowles, said: “On behalf of Winton ward councillors, we are delighted to donate a £500 grant.

“It was a real pleasure to meet the people from the Ashlawn Gardens Social Club as they set off for their annual trip. I am very pleased that we have been able to support it.”

TVBC’s Councillor Community Grant scheme helps to fund community-led initiatives. Local councillors allocate funds to projects that they identify as meeting a need in the community, based on feedback and ideas from residents.
