YOUNG sports starts sprinted to success as they went for gold on the national stage.

Farleigh School’s athletics team experienced a wealth of victories at the National Preparatory Schools Championships in Birmingham.

The squad achieved five medal at the contest which was added to their 51 medals at regional Wessex competitions, in addition to the team wins at both Port Regis and Yateley Manor athletics meetings.

At the nationals, the 17 Farleigh athletes who qualified performed superbly on what was an extremely competitive day. Nearly all made the finals – a “phenomenal achievement” in itself.

Highlights of the day included the Year 7 boys producing the run of their lives to win gold in the U13 4x100m relay and a bronze in the U13 boys’ 200m.

Graeme Ellison, director of Sport at Farleigh School, said: “I am so proud of our athletics team and all they have achieved this summer. It is amazing to see boys and girls from all year groups working together, and the support they give each other is second to none.”
