THOUSANDS of pounds were raised as the community of St Mary Bourne and beyond came together.

The annual St Mary Bourne Flower Show and Fete took place on Saturday on the recreation ground.

With a host of fun for all the family, especially youngsters as they took on Whitchurch Fire Station in the tug of war and won, followed by competitive adults taking on the crew.

MP for North West Hampshire Kit Malthouse also got involved in the festivities, taking part in the much-enjoyed tortoise races.

There was a variety of activities such as penalty shootout, skittles, welly boot throwing, and Andover Model Railway, along with archery with the Black Arrows of Overton and performances by Test Valley Brass.

Chairman of the organising committee Jeremy Barkes said: “The community spirit of everybody in the whole village coming together to put on the show was thoroughly marvellously - a great team effort.”

Under the marquee entries were judged in the village show, with flowers, produce and cakes - to name a few - awarded prizes.

“I think everyone had a nice day, they were pleased that the weather held out and had a jolly day,” Jeremy added.

Around £8,000 was raised with clubs in the village benefitting.
