A PROLIFIC Andover thief has been jailed for the fourth time in eight months following another shoplifting spree.

Corey North, of Quicksilver Way, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday) where he pleaded guilty to 11 counts of theft from a shop and five breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

Magistrates jailed the 22-year-old for a total of 12 months.

Andover Advertiser:

The thefts took place between Monday, July 29 and Tuesday, August 20. Shops targeted included Tesco, in River Way, Wilkinsons, in Bridge Street, and Sainsbury’s, in Shepherds Spring Lane.

The court heard that North stole items such as make up, meat and baby milk.

Sergeant Cath MacDonald, from Andover’s neighbourhood policing team, said: “Corey North’s persistent offending has had a real negative impact on the local business community.

“We won’t tolerate this kind of behaviour and we will use all the powers available to us to bring those responsible to justice.”

North was previously jailed in December last year but upon his release he stole more than £4,500 worth of items from shops around Andover between January and March.

He was jailed once more, this time for 14 weeks but was due to only serve half of this term.

In May he went on to steal items from Boots, Poundland, Waitrose, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco. The goods included alcohol, razors, electrical equipment, a bottle of fragrance, meat, hair gel and even a pillow cover.

North was jailed for 12 weeks and hit with a CBO for two years which prohibited him from abusing or threatening any person within retail premises in Andover and entering the town’s Boots, Waitrose, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Poundland stores.

On Wednesday, the court was told that this was the CBO he was found to be in breach of during his latest string of thefts.
