TRAVELLERS have moved on from an Andover trading estate a week-and-a-half after first arriving, but having left a trail of rubbish in their wake.

The group is believed to have gained access to the unused unit at Anton Trading Estate, in Anton Mill Road, on Sunday, August 18.

They remained there until today (Thursday) when they were moved on but left litter, including waste, food, beer cans and used nappies, strewn across the site and surrounding hedges.

Test Valley Borough Council was made aware of the situation but were unable to act as the site was privately-owned land.

The landowner was informed and has since taken court action to have the travellers evicted, with one nearby resident, who was in contact with the landowner, saying: “They have been great and they’ve done all they could do. They got the court order immediately.”

A spokesperson from the council told the Advertiser: “Last week, we were made aware of travellers setting up an unauthorised encampment by breaking into a privately-owned site on the Anton Mill Trading Estate.

“As the site is privately owned we gave advice to the landowner, who took action to evict them.

“We are aware that the group has now left the site.”

The police have been contacted for a comment.
