THE hot weather drew in the "most marvellous crowds" last month for Goodworth Clatford's annual village fete.

Around 1,000 people descended onto the site around the village hall on August 26 to enjoy a wealth of entertainment.

People were kept entertained with a wide variety of activities and stalls - from the 'Dog with the Waggiest Tail', to second hand books and the cake stall, others also played Giant Connect-4 and the Donkey Derby.

The event also welcomed a number of local charities including Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, and local branches of Guide Dogs for the Blind, and support for Motor Neurone Disease.

Jane Drew, village fete organiser, said: "The hot weather encouraged queues for local firm Greenfields hog roast, the beer tent and – not least – the ice cream van.

"In addition to raising funds for St Peter’s Church and other local community groups, it was a great opportunity for friends and families to get together."

Events of the afternoon finished on the river with the now traditional children's boat race and duck race in aid of St Peter’s Church and, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Martin Hatley and his wife, Jo, who presented the Flower Show’s Challenge Cups and Trophies at the end of the show," Jane added.
