A MOTORCYCLIST in his 70s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Wareham.

The crash involved a black Volkswagen Golf, driven by a woman in her 70s from the Dorchester area and a black Velocette motorcycle, ridden by a man from the Wareham area.

The incident happened on Bere Road near to the entrance to the Sika trail at 10.25am on Sunday.

The motorcyclist was taken by the ambulance service to Southampton hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Police said his next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the Golf has not been injured.

Bere Road was closed with the A35 and at the Westminster Road junction. It was also closed at Sugar Hill.

Drivers were urged to avoid Bere Road, from Wareham to Bere Regis, due to major delays.

Police Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said: “I would like to thank motorists and residents for their patience while the road closures were in place.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the collision to contact police.

“Also, I would urge any motorists who captured anything of relevance on dashcam to come forward.”
