THE wet weekend weather is due to continue into the week, with a yellow warning issued for rain.

Bolton was hit by heavy rainfall over the weekend and a flood warning was issued on Saturday after rising levels at Bessy Brook.

The flood information service warned that flooding of property close to Bessy Brook and Middle Brook was possible but by the afternoon, levels returned to normal.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, starting at 3pm today and lasting until 3pm tomorrow.

It warns that heavy rain could cause disruption due to localised flooding.

A spokesman said: "An area of heavy rain is expected to move northeast large parts of England later Monday and into Tuesday.

"The more persistent rain will probably ease on Monday night but bands of heavy showers are likely to follow on into Tuesday.

"Through the period, 20-40 mm of rain could fall quite widely with perhaps as much as 70 mm over high ground in northern England.

"With the ground having been left wet by heavy rain in the area this weekend, some flooding is likely."
