A WOMAN has been fined £120 after pleading guilty to racially abusing a Wiltshire Police escort officer.

Nicole Mason, 31, of Princess Mary Gardens, in Ludgershall, had been taken to custody at Melksham Police Station on July 11 following a disorder at her home.

Once she was there, she was verbally abusive to a number of police officers and staff, including making a racially offensive comment to one of the escort officers.

Mason appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to one count of racially/religiously aggravated harassment.

She was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and court costs of £85.

Inspector Pete Sparrow, from Wiltshire South Community Policing Team, said: “I am grateful that the CPS and the courts have taken this offence seriously and have successfully brought this woman to justice.

“Everyone knows that policing can be a difficult job, and unfortunately our officers and staff face verbal and physical abuse on an almost daily basis.

“However, that doesn’t mean we have to accept this – it is right that we use the law to punish those who treat our officers and staff in this way.”
