WHEN you enter your sausages to be judged by national critics, you might fear the wurst.

But this farm shop had nothing to worry about after proving their specially-crafted recipe was more than just a flash in the pan.

In fact, Greenfield Farm Shop impressed judges so much with their brilliant bangers that they scooped the top accolade of UK and Ireland’s Best Sausage of 2019.

And their homemade sausages have been flying off the shelves of the Anna Valley shop since the announcement last month.

Shop owner Martin Martindale and his son Tom said they have been celebrating since finding out the news.

Speaking to the Advertiser, they said it takes around 30 minutes to create the award-winning wieners which are made from a special recipe featuring honey and local mustard.

This particular sausage was exclusive to a bakery in Romsey and originally named the Braishfield Banger after the bakery it was introduced to. It’s since been renamed as the Greenfield Banger, in honour of the family’s bustling farm shop located around ten minutes from Andover town centre.

To get through to winning the award, Martin explained that it was very ‘technical’ and the sausage had to be correct in ‘appearance, texture, presentation and flavour’.

Upon receiving the award though, he described being ‘ecstatic’ as they had already been up ‘five times’ for the award before, since they began making sausages in 2005.

Martin said: “We can’t quite believe it yet but we have officially been crowned the champions.

“The hard work we put in has paid off and we are delighted to be crowned the champions.

“This is the absolute pinnacle of our family business’ continuing journey.”

When asked about what this will influence in regard to his business, Martin seemed relieved, saying that it would hopefully ‘bring publicity’ towards his business. Martin wanted it to ‘spread news’ and his son was already broadcasting it on Facebook, making it known that they were the first in Andover to receive the award and they were already proclaimed to have the best Hampshire sausage.

Dozens of people congratulated the family team on the news. Lisa Morgan posted to Facebook: “I’m not surprised at all. We have loved your products for years.”

While Lindsay Murray-Twinn added: “Many very well-deserved congratulations. Lovely shop with wonderful products.”
