POLICE have issued an appeal for witnesses after a serious collision on the A34 at the weekend.

Officers were called at 6.55pm on Sunday, December 1, to a two-vehicle collision involving a red Skoda Fabia and blue VW Polo on the northbound carriageway of the A34, just south of Sutton Scotney Services.

One person was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Now police are asking any potential witnesses who might have information to come forward.

“Anyone who saw the incident or has dash cam footage in the area at around that time should contact us on 101 quoting 44190432405,” read a statement from Hampshire Constabulary.

Following the incident a 22-year-old man from Andover was arrested on suspicion of the following charges:

- Driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit

- Causing serious injury by dangerous driving

- Driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs.

He has been released from custody but remains under investigation.

The northbound carriageway was closed for some time while emergency services dealt with the incident. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Services were also in attendance.

A female casualty from one of the vehicles was extricated from the car before being taken to the major trauma centre of Southampton General Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Another person from the same vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The incident was one of two to occur the A34 last night, after a second crash on the southbound carriageway was reported shortly after.

Witnesses took to Twitter to describe a scene of “utter chaos” with bumper-to-bumper traffic on both sides of the A34. Others reported being stuck in traffic for up to 45 minutes.

The northbound carriageway was closed completely until midnight, while a lane on the southbound carriageway remained blocked from around 9pm until just before 11pm, according to Highways England.
