A GROUP of teenagers raising funds to help renovate Overton skatepark were joined by a celebrity guest last week.
BBC presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Mike Bushell lent his support to the boys, mostly from Testbourne Community School’s year 10, as they manned a stall at the Overton Christmas Market.
Funds were raised by selling a variety of cakes, mulled wine and wooden Christmas trees, plus there was a tombola and a sponsored bike ride, in which participants cycled on a rolling road for four hours.
Over £600 was generated, with that sum going towards redeveloping the village skatepark, which is now over 20 years old.
When renovated, the new facility one will be for use by anyone using skateboards, BMXs or scooters.
The group has the support of the parish council and hope to apply to the borough council for some funding.
They have recently visited several skateparks in other areas to gain an understanding of how their wish list can be realised.
