ART aficionados were able to sample more than they bargained for at an Andover art studio’s Christmas event this weekend.

Alex McGarry, who recently opened her own art space in the town centre, helped her guests get into the festive spirit with a seasonal spread at her Waterloo Court studio.

Visitors were treated to mince pies and mulled wine on Saturday as they perused Alex’s latest pieces. And they were also able to make the most of special Christmas offers on selected items available for purchase from the gallery.

Alex opened her studio and gallery in October, this year, and has been overwhelmed by the positivity from visitors since.

“It’s been really good,” she said.

“However much you plan you don’t know really what the response will be. But it’s just been brilliant, people have just been so kind. It’s been really great.”

As well as her own work, the studio stocks paintings made by her dad, Pip, plus a range of goodies featuring her artwork, including coasters and cushions handmade by her mum, Jan.

And in time for Christmas Alex is also displaying items of jewellery, made by her friend Caroline Dyke of Blissimore designs, which feature her sketches and illustrations.

“I’ve done the designs,” added Alex, “and my friend Caroline, from Blissimore designs, she’s worked her magic and put them into jewellery.”

Alex’s studio is based at 10 Waverley Buildings, in Waterloo Court.

It is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 2.30pm, during which time you can find Alex sitting in the window working on her latest paintings.
