HUNDREDS of people have been evacuated from Warrington's new cinema - in the first week of it opening.

A fire alarm saw the evacuation of Cineworld in Time Square earlier this evening, Thursday.

Large crowds waited by the nearby Halifax bank after the alarm sounded as people were watching films.

Some cinemagoers described the scenes as 'unorganised chaos'.

They were allowed back in later in the night.

A spokesman for Cineworld said: “Cineworld is aware of an evacuation incident at our Warrington branch following a false fire alarm.

“Please rest assured that we are taking this very seriously and investigations are underway to determine how this happened.

“We also want to reiterate that customer safety is and will always be our number one priority.”
