THE police are appealing to the public to help identify the family of a woman who was found in the town centre.

The woman, who officers believe is called Elaine and is in her 30s, was found by members of the public in the park area near St Michael’s Church in Church Square at 4pm on Wednesday, December 18.

Police say Elaine is considered to be vulnerable and was in a distressed state. She has since been taken to hospital as a precaution while officers continue to try and confirm her identity.

She is described as being around five foot five inches tall, with mousey brown hair and glasses. She is wearing a long beige/pink puffa jacket, a pale pink hoodie and blue tracksuit bottoms.

Inspector Kirsten Troman said: “Elaine is being cared for while we do all we can to try and find her family and friends.

“Do you know Elaine? Do you recognise her description? If you think you can help, please call 101 and quoting reference 44190454929.”
