TWO people have been arrested, but released under investigation, after a fatal hit-and-run in Andover last week, police confirmed today (Monday).

A 38-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car, now believed to be a Jaguar XR, on Charlton Road at around 6.40pm last Monday (December 23).

Despite best efforts he died at the scene.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed today that two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 59-year-old man and 58-year-old woman, both from Andover, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.

They have both been released under investigation.

Officers are still keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident.

A statement from the police added: "We are still keen to speak with anyone who witnessed a zircon blue Jaguar in the Charlton Road area around 6.40pm on Monday 23 December.

"Do you have a dash cam that could have either captured the vehicle or the collision? Maybe you saw a damaged Jaguar driving in Andover after this time?

"Anyone with information should call 101, quoting 44190460421. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Residents of a Charlton street had earlier told the Advertiser that police were seen on Friday taking a man away in handcuffs having seized his car.

One onlooker said: "My parent lives in the same street and we saw him being taken away in a van. We asked police if it was in connection to the accident when they took his car away and it was. There have been police there ever since."
