PUPILS at Vernham Dean Gillum’s Primary School welcomed an unusual classmate last week.
Chalkie the donkey paid a visit to the village school as part of South East Donkeys initiative to teach youngsters about animal welfare.
Chalkie came into the school and greeted all of the children before visiting the school library and even the staff room.
A spokesman for the charity said: “He was very friendly and patient, the children were able to ask all sorts of questions about donkeys and they fed Chalkie too.”
The donkeys have appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and This Morning as well as taking part in pantomimes and plays.
