STORM Ciara is due to hit the UK this weekend, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning ahead of its arrival.
The warning has been issued for the whole of the UK and at the time the Advertiser went to print, will be in place from midnight on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday.
The Met Office notes that “very strong winds may bring disruption to parts of the UK” with gusts of between 50mph and 60mph likely across inland area. Heavy rain will be an additional hazard.
Residents have also been warned to expect the following:
n Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport expected
n Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
n There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close
n There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
n There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
