A FORMER intern is returning to the Silk Mill with a new exhibition, opening next month.

Robert Ely’s ‘Works in Silk’ will open at the Whitchurch Silk Mill on March 28.

Robert’s history with the Mill dates back to 1995 when he completed a short internship there to study weaving shed operations.

The following year he began to design and weave jacquard silk ribbons for his new studio, Papilionaceous, before moving down to Devon.

The upcoming exhibition will be his first outside of Devon and brings together weaving from all areas of his work.

Visitors will see one-off and limited-edition wall panels through to woven silk costume ribbons used for film and television, including the BBC’s ‘Poldark’, all brought to life at the Mill.

His exhibition is free with Mill Entry and will run until Saturday, June 21.

The Mill is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10.30am to 5pm.
