A person has been killed by a train at Swindon Station.

Duty inspector Colin Conway from Wiltshire Police confirmed the death and said British Transport Police are currently at the scene.

He told the Adver: "There was a collision between someone on the platform and a train.

"It was reported to us at about 4.15pm and it is a fatality.

"The British Transport Police are dealing with it."

GWR closed the station after the incident while emergency services arrived and dealt with the scene. 

No passengers were allowed in the station during this time. 

Three fire engines were at the scene from Stratton and Westlea and Swindon stations along with a British Transport Police unit and a private ambulance.

The private ambulance left the scene around 5.10pm.

A spokesman from the South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 4.10pm about an incident on Station Road, Swindon.

"We sent an ambulance crew and a senior paramedic to attend the incident."

Lines through Swindon have reopened.
