A MILITARY medal was amongst the items stolen after an elderly woman woke to find two burglars in her bedroom during the early hours of this morning (Monday).

The incident took place in Stockbridge at around 2.30am.

Police say the woman woke to find two men, who had their faces covered, already in her bedroom.

The offenders stole money from her purse, a number of items of jewellery and a Military Cross medal before leaving the address.

The medal, which was awarded for acts of exemplary gallantry during active operations, was in a presentation case that was signed by the king.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and are keen to speak with anyone who may be able to assist their enquiries.

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary read: “Perhaps you saw two men acting suspiciously in the area recently, or vehicles which looked out of place?

"Maybe you have been offered or have seen items of jewellery and a Military Cross medal for sale?
