A HAMPSHIRE hospice is inviting people in self-isolation to keep fit and stay active whilst supporting the charity during the coronavirus pandemic.

Naomi House and Jacksplace, based in Sutton Scotney, has temporarily suspended respite care at the hospices, turning its focus to end of life care only, in line with government guidance.

The charity needs to raise £9.2 million each year in order to offer a comprehensive service to the region’s most medically complex children and young adults, and needs the help of its supporters now more than ever, in these uncertain times.

Now the charity is encouraging people to exercise at home, record a video of themselves and share the footage on social media, whilst helping to raise funds along the way.

It is part of the charity’s Spring Into Action campaign – a virtual sporting event designed to beat the boredom and keep participants fit.

The concept is simple. All participants have to do is choose an exercise, set a goal, shoot a video, share it on social media and tag @naomiandjack and add a donation button/link.

Charlotte Patrick, Events Fundraiser for Naomi House & Jacksplace, said: “There are so many exercises you can do from home, and we’re here to help every step of the way! You can do push ups, star jumps, high-intensity interval training, weights, Zumba, turbo trainer cycling – there’s endless opportunities.

“And the types of goals you could set yourself include 3 Zumba sessions a week, 100 push ups a day for 10 days, one HIIT session every day for a month - we’ve found setting a goal motivates people to stick with it and challenge themselves, which is needed now more than ever, now that people are self-isolating and stuck at home.

“And why not support Naomi House & Jacksplace at the same time? We want participants to share their journey with us by recording their work-out on their phone and sharing it on their social media channels by tagging @naomiandjack.

“Participants can also raise money for Naomi House & Jacksplace by adding a donate button to their post on Facebook, or adding a link to our donate page on other channels.”
