THE chief executive of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said staff had been “overwhelmed by the kindness of our local community” after numerous donations had been given to all three hospitals run by the trust.

Alex Whitfield said “generous donations” had been brought in to Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester hospitals during the current Covid-19 pandemic, as a way of saying thank you to NHS staff.

She added: “We have received donations ranging from meals for staff, to toiletries for patients – and everything else in between. This is a time when we all need to come together, so I want to say thank you to everyone who has been in touch with us over the last couple of weeks with offers of help or donations.”

However, she stressed the importance of staying at home during the pandemic, adding: “The most important thing that members of the public can do right now is to stay at home and follow the national guidance, so that we can protect the NHS and save lives.”
