A HOUSING developer is hoping to build 82 new homes on farmland in Overton.

Bewley Homes, which is based in Baughurst, has submitted plans to build a mix of one to five-bed homes on land at Two Gate Lane.

Permission has also been sought to build a “priority access junction” connecting the B3400 with a new single-track road running through the proposed development.

The applicant says it has a vision “to create a better quality of home for their future residents and the neighbouring communities”.

Plans lodged with the borough council outline a mix of six one-bed, 22 two-bed, 32 three-bed, 19 four-bed and five five-bed homes – meaning a total of 247 beds will be provided. All dwellings will be two stories in height.

The site will also feature 166 allocated parking spaces, 10 visitor parking space and 54 garages spaces, plus a number of cycle store locations.

Documents note that the houses have been designed “to reflect the local character of Overton” with traditional materials set to be used to “match the existing pallet” across the village.

A separate application details plans for a new road to be built, connecting the development with the B3400. The junction with the B-road will sit just east of the existing Two Gate Meadow junction.

The plans for the show that 84 people attended a public exhibition, held in the village in October last year, with 26 feedback questionnaires being completed. Approximately 550 invitations to the exhibition had been delivered to properties in the local area.

In its conclusion, the design and access statement reads: “The development... has been carefully considered to fit within the principles set out from the pre-application feedback and site analysis.

“The proposed development provides a mix of housing, maintaining the existing character of the area whilst also taking into account the wider context.

“The approach seeks to positively respond to the opportunities and constraints presented within the site and provides an opportunity to deliver a high quality sustainable development, whilst helping the borough to meet its housing need.” To view the plans in full go to planning.basingstoke.gov.uk/online-applications/ using the reference ‘20/00789/FUL’.
