WILTSHIRE police are supporting the council in its battle against fly-tippers after investigating a fly-tipping incident in Amesbury last week.
At around 2pm on Monday, April 27, officers received reports that an individual was allegedly taking money from people to dispose of their rubbish, but instead of doing so he was dumping it.
After arriving at the scene on Antrobus Road, officers found an amount of rubbish, including a mattress, sofa, freezer and microwave, piled on the road.
The individuals involved were questioned and their details passed to the council who will now deal with the complaint.
Sgt Tom Ellerby said: “Fly-tipping is an extremely anti-social and dangerous act.
"Although things like this is primarily an issue for the local authority to deal with, we support our partners in encouraging the public to report this crime as soon as possible to them.
“However, as in this case, if you are present when rubbish is being dumped, please call the police with as much information as possible including descriptions of the people, vehicles involved and registration numbers.
“In some cases we can take action, and often will also choose to work with the local authority Environmental Protection Department.”
