A TEENAGE pedestrian was airlifted to hospital after a crash involving a van on the A303 yesterday.

Police say they were called at around 10.30pm to the A303, near the Countess Roundabout, in Amesbury, after reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a van.

At the scene they found that a Mercedes Sprinter van had collided with a 17-year-old male pedestrian on the eastbound carriageway.

The teen, who is from the local area, was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General hospital with head and leg injuries.

The man driving the van was shaken but uninjured.

The road was closed for approximately six hours while emergency services attended to the scene, and police have now issued an appeal to the public for witnesses.

PC Charlotte Sartin, from Wiltshire Police's collision investigation unit, said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have heard or seen this collision yesterday evening.

"The van was travelling on the eastbound carriageway of the A303 when the collision happened; were you in the area at the time? Perhaps you have dash-cam footage?
