TWO men have been arrested amid allegations of sexual assault at a doctor’s surgery just over the Wiltshire border.

The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation regarding Cross Plains Surgery, in Durrington, which also had a site in Tidworth that closed unexpectedly in July of last year.

Officers say the arrests, of two men aged 31 and 41, were made in March and the pair have since been interviewed and released.

They add that it would be ‘inappropriate to comment further’ as the investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Two arrests have been made as part of ongoing enquiries into a medical centre in Salisbury.

“A 31-year-old man from the Salisbury area was arrested on suspicion of four counts of sexual assault.

“They were both arrested on March 27, interviewed and have been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

“This investigation includes working closely with partner agencies and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

Cross Plains Surgery, which had provided services from three locations in Wiltshire, closed its Tidworth branch at just four days’ notice in July 2019.

Management said the decision was made in the face of “considerable staffing challenges” identified by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Patients were advised to use the surgery’s other sites in Larkhill and Durrington, but in October the CQC rated the provider's service ‘inadequate’ and the Durrington site was closed.

Inspectors found that the practice was not carrying out DBS checks on employees and showed no evidence of supervising non-medically qualified staff who were working in a clinical role.

Patients of the surgery were taken on by Sarum Health Group, which operates Millstream Medical Centre, in Salisbury, and Larkhill Medical Centre.

Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group, which overseas healthcare in the area, has been contacted for a comment.
