POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Tidworth last week.

Officers were called just before 7.50am on August 7 to a report that a black BMW had crashed into a tree in Station Road. Damage was also caused to a telegraph pole.

Members of the public had detained the man as he attempted to leave the scene before officers arrived.

The man, who is aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was then taken to Melksham custody for further questioning.

PC Myles Scott said: "We believe there were a number of members of the public in the area at the time of the collision, as well as a number of people who may have witnessed the manner of the man's driving leading up to the collision.

"We'd urgently like to speak to these people as they could have significant information to help with our investigation."
