SIR: I was very dismayed when I read that plans were being considered to close off the Square in Winchester to traffic (Chronicle, August 6).
I am an elderly pensioner and I have a Blue Badge. I have been able to shop in the Upper High Street because I can park in Great Minster Street. This has been a great help to me and other disabled people, if access is denied we will find it very difficult to shop in the city. There are car parks where we could park but that would entail a lot more walking.
Many of us are unable to walk very far and we are past cycling!
We need to make use of the shops or we will loose them all, we do not want Winchester to become a dead city.
