Move aside Odeon! A new cinema is coming to Andover – and you don’t even have to leave your car to use it.

The new drive-in cinema, to be based at Finkley Down Farm, will allow audiences to watch blockbuster films from the past and present without having to leave their vehicle.

The screen will open later this week, when residents will be able to watch dark comic book film Joker on the big screen. Films such as A Star Is Born, The Greatest Showman and Bohemian Rhapsody, as well as older releases such as Jurassic Park and Grease, are among the movies already announced for the cinema’s opening, with more to be announced.

The cinema is being provided by German Events Limited, which hosts pop-up bars and grills across the UK, such as Mojito Beach Bar events, as well as hosting Bristol’s annual Christmas Market. The company currently hosts drive-in cinemas in Bournemouth and Salisbury.

Sven Schmidt, the company director for Drive-In Cinema, said: “We are delighted to be bringing our Drive-In cinema to Andover residents. We have hosted events in the UK for over 15 years and were devastated to have to cancel this summer’s plans. With the Government restrictions now allowing drive-in cinemas to open, we cannot wait to bring some fun and entertainment to our customers.”

As well as the cinema itself, snacks and drinks will available to buy, with customers able to buy them from a team of vendors who will visit cars with contactless delivery. A Bluetooth speaker will be provided for each car, allowing visitors to listen without using a radio.

Cars will be parked two metres apart from each other to ensure social distancing, and access will be granted by checking number plates against a guest list.

Andover’s new cinema will be open from Friday September 25.
