Colchester police officers made a humourous connection to a popular comedy film scene after ushering a swan away from traffic.

The swan was spotted wandering in the road around Colchester on Tuesday.

Officers who update the Essex Police - Colchester Facebook page were sure to make a tongue-in-cheek reference to the 2007 film Hot Fuzz, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

In a famous scene, two officers played by Pegg and Frost pursue an escaped swan through the picturesque fictional village of Sandford.

Referencing a famous line from the film, the spokesman said Colchester officers had acted "for the Greater Good."

He said: "PCSO Wright responded to calls of a swan waddling in and out of traffic.

"She attended and managed to usher the confused swan away from traffic and back to the river.

"Here at Colchester police we are all about helping people, so with that in mind I have also included the appropriate Hot Fuzz gif in the comments so you dont have to look for it yourself."
